ASUU STRIKE:NO WORK NO PAY!

Governor Ibrahim Shema of Katsina state has threatened
to suspend payment of salaries to striking lecturers of
Umaru Musa Yaradua University even as he urged them
to resume work immediately.

y, UMYU, is the state
owned university and its academic staffs are part of the
on going strike by Academic Staff Union of Universities,
ASUU.

Speaking at the Katsina Government House yesterday,
when he recieved the emir of Katsina who paid him the
traditional sallah homage, Shema enjoined the striking
lecturers to resume work noting " they have no issue with
the state government"

" I am a lawyer of international repute and I know what
the labour law says. I am calling on the ASUU to resume
work failing which they will not be paid salaries"

" You cannot stay at home and expect to be given tax
payers money, we will not do that" he added even as he
enjoined the national body of ASUU to resume work so
as to ensure functional varsity education.

Shema however tasked residents of the state to support
efforts at ensuring peaceful coexistence just as he stressed
the need for Nigerians to collectively pray for sustained
peace.

In a speech, the emir of Katsina, Abdulmumin Kabir
Usman lauded efforts of the state government in
providing infrastructures to nook and cranny of the state.

The Emir who decried insecurity and rising rate of
accidents urged residents to be prayerful.
He enjoined parents and care givers to support
immunisation against child killer diseases.
