Oronto Douglas’ sister freed
YENAGOA — After nine days with her abductors, Mrs. Augusta Douglas-Ayam, sister of Special Adviser to the President on Research, Documentation and Strategy, Oronto Douglas, has been released.
Though it could not be immediately ascertained if any ransom was paid, a statement by the family, yesterday night in Yenagoa, said she was set free unconditionally in the early hours of the day.

Mrs. Augusta Douglas-Ayam, who was seized by armed men from her shop at Ogbia in Ogbia Local Government Area of the state, according to the statement, is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
The statement read: "After nine traumatic days in the hands of abductors, our beloved sister Augusta Douglas-Ayam was this morning unconditionally released to the family.
"We thank God for his protection and intervention. We also thank Nigerians who, through prayers and words of encouragement, supported us throughout this ordeal.
"Our sister is currently in a hospital receiving treatment.
"We will not be making any further statements on this issue and wish to put it behind us."
Head of the family, Mr. Romeo Douglas, had last week pleaded with her captors to set her free on humanitarian grounds due to her poor health.
He had said: "We do hope and pray that those who have kidnapped her will give her the best of treatment deserving of any human being and envision also that they will have a rethink over the matter and release her to reunite with us as a family."
