Shekarau is Angry: The Clamour for Northern President Rubbish

When a man is bitter he throws caution to the wind. If ex-Governor Ibrahim Shekarau had been made leader of APC in Kano State against the party policy of having the sitting governor as leader, he would have stayed in the party and contested for the party's presidential ticket. But now he's singing a different song...

Mallam Shekarau, on Thursday, faulted the clamour by some stakeholders for the emergence of a President of Northern extraction in 2015. In fact, the same man who contested in 2011, described the call as rubbish.

He said, "This issue of rotational presidency is not the issue. What we should be talking about is balancing so that we can carry the people along.

"So, this argument that it has to be my turn and it has to be my village man is all rubbish. It is the problem of lack of confidence among ourselves."
When asked whether he was ready to campaign for President Goodluck Jonathan if he emerged the PDP candidate, Shekarau said he is ready to work for Jonathan.

On Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso's defection, Shekarau said, "His defection cannot kill PDP. Those who are current with the situation on the ground know that the governor of Kano State had long before now been out of the PDP."

Shekarau, who spoke with State House correspondents after a meeting with Vice-President Namadi Sambo at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, said he is the man who can make impact in Kano, not the sitting governor.
