Lupita Nyong'o, Cate Blanchett And Paula Patton Wow On The Spirit Awards Red Carpet

We wouldn't blame the a-listers for wanting to get an early night before the Oscars, but it looks like the stars were in the mood to party on Saturday as the likes of Lupita Nyong'o, Cate Blanchett, Jared Leto and Paula Patton swapped a quiet night in for one last pre-Oscars blowout, partying at the Independent Spirit Awards in California.

The Spirit Awards have become a traditional part of Oscars weekend, with the ceremony in Southern California always drawing a huge crowd on the night before the pinnacle of awards season.

And despite the dismal weather it was a great turnout for the 2014 ceremony last night as Oscar nominees Lupita, Cate and Jared all braved the rain to walk the red carpet.

The night belonged to 12 Years a Slave newcomer Lupita who made it a double celebration as she scooped the Best Supporting Actress gong while ringing in her 31st birthday. Bringing her beloved mum Dorothy as her date, Lupita looked gorgeous in a metallic playsuit that showed off that incredible figure.

Paula Patton was also looking radiant in a bright yellow Lorena Sarbu dress. Despite only announcing her split from husband Robin Thicke days earlier, the model and actress was spotted laughing and joking on the red carpet, before heading inside to present an award.
