Royal Review: Kate Middleton's Low Key First Mother's Day With Prince George
According to HELLO! magazine, Kate Middleton has told friends and family that she is "very excited" about her first Mother's Day as a mum. No doubt the Duchess is feeling relieved after finding the perfect match in her new nanny who was employed to help Kate and Prince William with George during their impending Australian tour.
And they appear to have struck gold with Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, a Spanish woman who studied at Norland College in Bath. The pair reportedly felt so comfortable with their new arrangement that they left precious Prince George with Maria as they enjoyed a vacation in the Maldives earlier this month.
There are no extravagant holidays planned for Mother's Day though. The royal couple are rumoured to be keeping things very low key for the annual event, according to E! News. Kate and Wills are reportedly spending the day at Kensington Palace, so they can enjoy some quality time with their 8-month-old baby.
This appears to be a pattern for the young royals, who favour quiet nights in rather than a large party. After all, Kate opted to spend her 32nd birthday at home with Wills rushing back from university to spend the evening with her.
However, there could be a reason behind today's subdued festivities. In August 1997, Prince William and his brother Prince Harry, lost their mother Princess Diana of Wales in a tragic car accident in Paris.
Prince William, who was only 15-years-old when he lost his mother, has previously opened up about his loss. As the patron of the Child Bereavement Charity, in 2009 William said: "Never being able to say the word 'mummy' again in your life sounds like a small thing however, for many including me it really is just a word; hollow and evoking only memories."
As a supportive spouse, Kate is probably aware of how emotional her husband might feel over this holiday, keeping things low-key to avoid upsetting him further.
The Windsor's aren't alone in keeping this casual for the day, with a survey from Cussons Mum & Me revealed that mothers were most looking forward to "spending time with their children and uninterrupted lie in and breakfast in bed."
We're sure Wills (or maybe a butler) can knock up a full English for Kate this morning!
