The 17 time Grammy winner appeared alone in the midst of a smoky stage, straddling a chair before her '99 Problems' hubby Jay Z came out to join her to rap his controversial verse, grabbing his wife's hand to bring this year's electrifying opening performance to a close.
Jay Z lead last night's nominations with nine but only took home one for his duet with Justin Timberlake as 'Holy Grail' took won the gong for 'Best rap –sung collaboration'.
The biggest winners of the night were French dance duo Daft Punk who scooped the biggest gongs of the night including 'Best Album' and 'Record of The Year' while Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Justin Timberlake and Lorde also took home a handful of prizes.
